FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a QR code work?

A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional barcode that, when scanned by a phone camera, automatically opens an encoded URL. The user points their camera at the code, the phone recognizes it, and the browser opens the embedded address. No app needed — iOS and Android camera apps have had built-in QR scanning for years.

Is this QR code generator really free?

Yes — fully free. No signup, no watermark, no resolution limit, and commercial use is allowed. The PNG you download is yours.

Do QR codes expire?

Static QR codes do not expire. Every code we generate is static — the URL is encoded directly into the pattern. As long as the destination URL stays live, the QR code keeps working, years later if needed.

Can I edit a QR code after creating it?

With static QR codes you cannot change the destination URL after the fact. If you need to redirect, you generate a new code and replace the old one. There are dynamic QR services (paid, monthly) that route through a redirect server so you can edit the destination — but for most use cases, static is enough and free.

Will the logo or text in the center prevent scanning?

No. All our QR codes are generated with level H (highest) error correction, which means the code can still be read even if roughly 30% of it is obscured. The center badge covers at most 19% of the code, so scanning is unaffected. We still recommend testing with your phone after printing.

What resolution should I print at?

The PNG you download is high enough resolution for both screen and print. As a rule of thumb: print the QR at minimum 2×2 cm; for scanning from 30 cm away, 3×3 cm is ideal. For large posters scanned from a distance, scale up proportionally — roughly 1 cm of QR size per 10 cm of expected scan distance.

Can I track how many people scanned my QR code?

Static QR codes cannot be tracked — the user goes straight to the destination URL with no server in between. If you need scan analytics, you can track on the destination side (Google Analytics, Plausible) or use Web Gerek’s built-in QR menu analytics on a paid plan: scan counts, times of day, and devices all show up in your dashboard.

Can I make a QR code for WiFi, phone numbers, or email?

The tool currently supports URL/link QR codes. For special formats, paste the appropriate string into the URL field: WiFi uses "WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:Password;;", phone numbers use "tel:+15551234567", and email uses "mailto:address@example.com". These are standard QR data formats and the generator encodes them as-is.
